How to Pass the Cambodian Driving Theory Test (4 Elimination Hacks)
Four elimination strategies that let you deduce the right answer on the MPWT driving theory test even when you are not sure. Each one comes with a worked example.
Hack 1: The Maximum Safety & Defensive Driving Bias
When in doubt, the most cautious, speed-reducing answer is right
The exam's sole mission is public safety. If you are torn between choices, the correct answer 95% of the time is the one that: • Slows down or prepares to stop • Yields right-of-way to pedestrians or other vehicles • Increases the safe following cushion
Slow downYield / Give wayStop and checkMaintain safe distanceExercise caution
AccelerateHonk to force wayProceed without stoppingIgnore
When approaching a blind curve, what must you do?
- Accelerate to pass quickly
- Slow down, stay in right lane, and do not overtake (CORRECT)
- Honk horn continuously to claim the road
Hack 2: Eliminate the Extreme Words Traps
Options with "Always / Never / Immediately force" are almost always traps
Driving law adapts to real-world context. Multiple-choice options containing extreme absolutes are almost always crafted distractors. ❌ Trap Words: "Always accelerate", "Never check mirrors", "Slam brakes immediately", "Force pedestrians to wait" ✅ Realistic Words: "When conditions are safe", "Check mirrors first", "Ease off gradually"

Always without exceptionNever checkAbruptly / SlamWithout looking
When a tire blows out, what should you do?
- Slam on the brakes immediately with maximum force (EXTREME TRAP)
- Grip steering firmly, release gas, and slow down gradually (CORRECT)
- Turn the steering wheel sharply off the road
Hack 3: The Contradictory Opposites Rule
When two options state exact opposites, the correct answer is one of them
Exam question creators commonly generate distractors by taking the true law and inverting a key word (e.g., "Steer INTO the skid" vs "Steer AWAY from the skid"). When you spot a direct contradictory pair, eliminate all other options and pick the logical one from that pair!
Direct opposing statements
When your vehicle skids on a wet surface, how should you steer?
- Steer in the direction the rear of the car is skidding (CORRECT)
- Steer opposite the direction the rear of the car is skidding
- Release the steering wheel completely
Hack 4: The Universal Sequence Rule (Mirror > Signal > Maneuver)
Any lane change or turn question must inspect & signal BEFORE turning
For every question regarding lane changes, turning, or overtaking, the lawful sequence is strictly: 1. Mirror: Check rearview and side mirrors 2. Signal: Activate turn signals in advance (30m urban / 50m rural) 3. Shoulder Check: Inspect blind spots 4. Maneuver: Execute when clear Any option that begins the turn before signaling or checking is an immediate elimination.

Turn immediately then signalChange lanes without looking
Before changing lanes, what sequence must the driver follow?
- Steer into the new lane first and then activate indicator
- Check mirrors, activate signal, confirm safety, then change lane (CORRECT)
- Honk horn and immediately change lane
